Today marked the first time I've been able to stand on the porch of the Tower Villa and experience the full expanse of the view. As great as it is living here full time, the bar is constantly being raised on what it takes to steal your breath away. We are so blessedly spoiled. I stood on the porch for about 5 minutes simply looking from side to side and visually drinking it all in. In all honesty, I have never seen a more beautiful view from St. John or anywhere in the Virgin Islands. It is unfortunate that pictures cannot capture the full experience of standing here. I guess you just have to come and experience it in person! [caption id="attachment_1566" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Finally! The view without the trees[/caption] [caption id="attachment_1565" align="aligncenter" width="640"] East End and the southern chain of the BVI[/caption] Below is the slab form for the Tower Villa. You can see the "channels" in the slab form where the beams will be formed. These beams will support the cantilevered porch which extends along the view facing portion of the villa. The beams require the largest rebar available in 20' and 30' lengths. You can also see the top of the steel cage which forms the support column which tie into the column footings we poured a week ago Friday. We also made some progress on the cistern wall forming. The interior portion of the form is set and the steel is coming together for the cistern walls. [caption id="attachment_1567" align="aligncenter" width="498"] Interior cistern form complete with steel in progress[/caption] The team will continue the tying of steel to create the grid which will be embedded within the cistern's cement walls. On a frustrating note, we learned on Friday that the monopoly concrete supplier located on St. Thomas, cannot supply us with concrete until November 1st and 4th. Predictable, reliable, on demand supply of concrete is the largest obstacle to building here in a timely fashion. Fortunately, we have enough forming work to do to keep the crew moving at full speed while we're waiting for the gray gold. If you haven't picked up on it yet, I'm really psyched about being able to see the view in all its glory. It was also a beautiful day, but I'm waiting on one of those truly perfect days that come about every 6 weeks. Now I have a place to go and take that fantastic picture. Here's a video I shot today from the slab form for the Tower Villa's front porch.
